Vale Wojciech Jacek (Jack) Karczewski KC

Vale Wojciech Jacek (Jack) Karczewski KC 1952 – 2023

It is with great sadness that CLANT marks the passing of Wojciech Jacek (Jack) Karczewski KC, late last year. Jack’s contribution to the administration of justice in the Northern Territory and in particular to the NTDPP is immeasurable. Following admission to practice in Queensland in 1974, and to the Supreme Court of Papua New Guinea in 1975, he commenced in the Prosecutions Division of the Northern Territory Department of Law in June 1984 prior to his admission  in the NT in August 1984.

Jack worked tirelessly for the NT government until he retired in June 2021 from the position as Director of Public Prosecutions he had held since 2013. He retired from the NT Council of Law Reporting the same year, having been a member since its inception in 1992. He was Deputy Director of the ODPP for almost 15 years.

Jack was a member of our Executive from CLANT’s inception in 1986 until 2008 and influential in encouraging prosecutors to join the Association.

He was a member of the Royal Australian Air Force Specialist Reserve (Legal), holding the rank of Wing Commander.

CLANT extends their condolences to Jack’s wife, Anna, and to his two daughters and his son.
