About Us

The Criminal Lawyers Association of the Northern Territory was founded in 1986, becoming incorporated in 2009.  Membership is open to any person who either contributes to the field of criminal law or criminal jurisprudence, or who practices criminal law, in the Northern Territory of Australia.  Law students are eligible to be Associate Members.

You need JavaScript enabled to view it., and pay the biennial membership fee, which is currently $20.  In addition, all persons who are eligible for membership and attend the biennial CLANT conference, thereby become members.

CLANT is managed by a Management Committee elected at the biennial General Meeting of the Association.

CLANT maintains close ties with the Law Society Northern Territory, the Northern Territory Bar Association and Australian Lawyers for Human Rights, and is a member of the Aboriginal Disability Justice Campaign and the Making Justice Work Campaign.

CLANT has provided substantial financial support to a range of programs, agencies, causes and cases involving the criminal justice system, including:

In addition to the biennial Bali Conference, CLANT presents another biennial event: the Tony Fitzgerald Memorial Lecture.

CLANT's Patron is the Hon Justice Dean Mildren AC RFD QC.
